USDT has issuer-level controls

Tether's December 2023 announcement introduced a voluntary freezing policy concerning OFAC-sanctioned addresses. A successful on-chain transfer is therefore different from an issuer guarantee that funds can never be restricted. It is also not evidence that every discounted offer involves illicit funds.

Traceable funds can face legal action

In June 2025, US authorities announced a seizure and civil forfeiture complaint concerning over $225.3 million in cryptocurrency allegedly connected to investment fraud. The announcement credits blockchain analysis and Tether's assistance. A complaint's allegations must not be presented as a final judgment against an unrelated seller.

Do not buy a story about 'cleaning' funds

Our takeaway: a seller's 'clean' screenshot or discount is no substitute for a credible counterparty and documented source of funds. Decline offers expressly marketed as criminal proceeds. Preserve transaction records and seek appropriate professional help if funds are disputed; another transfer does not establish legitimacy.
